Meet Dandy, our handsome Red Cavapoo boy with adorable white markings from Tulip and Yogi Bear!
This little guy is spending the beginning of his puppyhood with us at Blessed Little Pups in Goshen, Indiana, surrounded by his mom, littermates, and plenty of attentive care. His rich red coloring and sweet touches of white give Dandy an eye-catching look that's uniquely his.
At this age, however, we're still waiting to discover the most interesting part of Dandy: his personality.
Over the next several weeks, he'll become more active, curious, and aware of everything around him.
 
We'll get to see what catches his attention, how he approaches new experiences, and all the funny little habits that eventually become part of who he is.
For now, we're happy to let Dandy grow at his own pace and enjoy every stage along the way.
 
Little Discoveries Make Up His Days
A young puppy learns about the world one small experience at a time.
As Dandy develops, we'll gradually expand his surroundings and introduce him to different sights, sounds, textures, surfaces, toys, people, handling, and everyday routines.
 
Some of these experiences may seem simple, but they're completely new to a puppy. Feeling a different surface beneath his paws, hearing an unfamiliar household noise, investigating a toy, or spending individual time with us all give Dandy opportunities to experience something new.
We keep these introductions positive and appropriate for his stage of development.
 
Dandy will also receive daily interaction, gentle handling, early socialization, and individual attention, while still having plenty of time to play with his siblings, nap, eat, and simply enjoy being little.
Dandy's First Training Experiences
 
At around 7 weeks old, Dandy will begin working on a few basic skills and routines before he heads home.
We'll introduce him to:
Going potty outside
Becoming comfortable with a crate
Taking his first steps on a leash
Beginning recall and responding when called
Early commands including sit, come, and stay
Learning through praise and positive reinforcement
 
At this age, training is about creating familiarity rather than expecting mastery.
Dandy will still have lots to learn when he joins his family, and his training will continue through repetition, patience, and consistency at home.
 
We simply want to give him a helpful beginning so some of those important routines won't be completely new when he starts the next chapter of his life.
 
What Makes a Cavapoo a Cavapoo?
Dandy is a Cavapoo, which means he's a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle.
 
The Cavalier has a long history as a people-focused companion breed, while the Poodle is widely recognized for its intelligence and trainability. Cavapoos can inherit different combinations of characteristics from both sides of their family.
 
They're often loved for being affectionate, intelligent, playful, and engaging companions, but no two puppies are exactly alike.
 
That's certainly true within a litter, too.
 
Even though Dandy shares the same parents and birthday with his siblings, he'll develop his own preferences and personality as he grows. We're looking forward to discovering exactly what makes him different from the rest!

Dandy has a beautiful red coat accented with white markings, giving this little boy an especially cute appearance.
 
His coat is still a puppy coat, so we'll get to watch its appearance and texture continue developing as he matures. Because Cavapoos combine Cavalier and Poodle genetics, coat characteristics can vary between individual puppies.
 
Regular grooming will eventually become an important part of Dandy's routine. Brushing, bathing, nail trims, and professional grooming as needed can help keep his coat comfortable and well cared for.
We begin preparing for that in a very simple way by getting Dandy accustomed to gentle handling.
 
Having his paws, ears, face, and body touched during puppyhood can help familiarize him with some of the handling involved in grooming and routine care.
