Meet Our Little Guy, Orchid
Say hello to Orchid, a handsome Red Cavapoo boy with adorable white markings from Tulip and Yogi Bear!
 
Orchid is spending the beginning of his life right here with us at Blessed Little Pups in Goshen, Indiana, where his days currently consist of all the important things a growing puppy needs: plenty of sleep, time with Mom, snuggling up with his littermates, and lots of attentive care.
His beautiful red coloring paired with those contrasting white markings already gives him a distinctive appearance, but there's still so much about Orchid that we haven't discovered yet.
 
His personality is just beginning to develop, and we're excited to watch it happen naturally. In the weeks ahead, he'll start making his own choices, showing preferences, and developing all those funny little puppy habits that eventually make each one so memorable.
 
The World According to Orchid
Imagine experiencing almost everything for the very first time.
 
That's exactly what puppyhood is like!
 
As Orchid becomes more mobile and curious, his little world will gradually expand. We'll introduce him to different household sounds, surfaces, toys, people, handling, routines, and age-appropriate experiences.
 
A new texture under his paws might become an afternoon adventure. A toy he's never seen before gives him something new to investigate. Even an ordinary household sound can become a learning experience for a puppy hearing it for the first time.
We introduce these experiences gradually rather than trying to fit everything into a puppy's first few weeks.
 
Along the way, Orchid will receive daily interaction, gentle handling, early socialization, and individual attention, while still having plenty of time for playing, sleeping, eating, and growing alongside his siblings.
 
Adding Training to Orchid's Routine
At approximately 7 weeks old, we'll begin introducing Orchid to some of the basic skills and routines that will eventually become part of life with his family.
His early lessons will include:
 
Beginning to potty outside
Becoming comfortable with a crate
Introduction to leash walking
Early recall and responding when called
Beginning commands such as sit, come, and stay
Plenty of praise and positive reinforcement
 
Orchid won't leave us as a fully trained puppy, nor would we expect him to be at such a young age.
 
These lessons are simply his introduction.
 
Our goal is to help make these concepts familiar so his future family has a foundation they can continue building upon with consistency, patience, and lots of encouragement.
 
A Little Cavalier, A Little Poodle
Orchid is a Cavapoo, a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle.
Cavaliers have a long history as companion dogs and are known for their people-oriented nature, while Poodles are well known for their intelligence and trainability. Cavapoos can inherit different combinations of characteristics from both sides.
 
That's part of what makes watching Orchid grow so interesting.
 
Cavapoos are often described as affectionate, intelligent, playful, and engaging companions, but every puppy is an individual. Rather than assuming exactly what Orchid will be like because he's a Cavapoo, we'll let him show us.
 
His own personality will be much more interesting anyway!
 
Red With His Own Little Touch of White
Orchid's red coat and cute white markings give him a look that's all his own.
As he grows, we'll get to watch his puppy coat develop along with the rest of him. Coat texture and appearance can vary among Cavapoos, even between puppies from the same family, because of their
 
Cavalier and Poodle heritage.
Coat care will also become an important part of Orchid's routine as he gets older.
Regular brushing, bathing, nail trims, and professional grooming as needed can help keep a Cavapoo's coat comfortable and well maintained. Gentle handling during puppyhood also gives Orchid some early experience with having his paws, ears, and body touched, which can help prepare him for future grooming sessions.

Orchid's parents are Tulip and Yogi Bear.
 
At Blessed Little Pups, our parent dogs undergo genetic and OFA health testing. The information provided through health testing is an important part of making thoughtful and informed decisions within our breeding program.
 
Once puppies arrive, we turn our attention toward the needs of each individual little one.
 
For Orchid, these first weeks will include attentive daily care, early socialization, positive experiences, and eventually those first introductions to training.
It's a lot of growing and learning packed into a relatively short amount of time!
