Say Hello to Sprout
Meet Sprout, our handsome little Red Cavapoo boy from Tulip and Yogi Bear!
With a name like Sprout, it seems only fitting that he's at the very beginning of growing into the puppy he'll eventually become. Right now, his world is still pretty small, filled with his mom, littermates, plenty of naps, and all the care he receives here at Blessed Little Pups in Goshen, Indiana.
Over the next several weeks, that's going to change quickly. Sprout will become steadier on his little paws, begin exploring more of his surroundings, discover toys and new experiences, and eventually start showing us the personality that's uniquely his.
We don't want to decide too early whether Sprout will be the adventurous one, the snuggler, the silly one, or a little bit of everything. We're going to let him grow and show us for himself!
Growing a Little More Every Day
There's an incredible amount of development packed into a puppy's first several weeks of life.
As Sprout reaches the appropriate stages, we'll gradually introduce him to different sights, sounds, surfaces, people, toys, handling, and everyday routines. What seems ordinary to an adult dog can be an entirely new experience for a young puppy.
That's why we believe those small introductions matter.
Sprout will receive plenty of gentle handling, daily interaction, early socialization, and individual attention while still having lots of time to eat, sleep, play, and spend time with his littermates.
Our goal is to give him positive early experiences without rushing him through puppyhood.
After all, you're only little once!
Sprout's First Puppy Lessons
At around 7 weeks old, we'll begin adding a little more structure to Sprout's days by introducing some basic training and household routines.
Sprout will begin working on:
- Learning to potty outside
- Becoming familiar with a crate
- Introduction to walking on a leash
- Beginning recall and responding when called
- Early commands such as sit, come, and stay
- Learning through praise and positive reinforcement
These are the first building blocks rather than finished skills.
Sprout will still be a young puppy when he joins his family, and continued patience, repetition, and consistency at home will be important. By introducing these concepts here, we hope to give his family a helpful starting point for everything they'll continue teaching him.
What Exactly Is a Cavapoo?
Sprout is a Cavapoo, a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle.
Both parent breeds bring their own wonderful qualities to the mix. Cavaliers have a long history as devoted companion dogs, while Poodles are well known for their intelligence and trainability.
Cavapoos are often loved for being affectionate, intelligent, playful, and people-oriented companions. Because they are a mixed breed, however, individual puppies can inherit different combinations of characteristics from each side of their family.
That's another reason we enjoy watching our puppies develop rather than assuming exactly what they'll be like based solely on their breed.
Sprout gets to be Sprout!
A Handsome Little Red Coat
One thing we already know about Sprout is that he's sporting a beautiful red coat.
As he grows, his puppy coat will continue developing and changing along with the rest of him. We're excited to watch his overall appearance mature as those tiny puppy features begin transforming into the adorable Cavapoo look so many families love.
Regular grooming will also become an important part of his life as he gets older. Introducing puppies to gentle handling early can help prepare them for everyday care such as brushing, bathing, nail trims, and professional grooming.
Meet His Parents, Tulip & Yogi Bear
Sprout is the son of Tulip and Yogi Bear.
At Blessed Little Pups, our parent dogs undergo genetic and OFA health testing. Health testing gives us valuable information that helps guide thoughtful decisions within our breeding program.
Once our puppies arrive, that careful planning turns into hands-on care.
We'll spend the weeks ahead caring for Sprout, watching his development, introducing appropriate new experiences, and helping him build a foundation for his transition into family life.
Sprout's Bags Will Be Packed!
When it's time for Sprout to leave the familiar surroundings of Blessed Little Pups and begin life with his new family, we'll send him with several essentials and a few comforting reminders of home.
Sprout will go home with:
- Up-to-date vaccinations and complete health records
- Health guarantee
- Microchip identification
- A blanket carrying familiar scents from his littermates
- Starter PawTree premium puppy food
- A favorite toy
- A leash
- Lifetime breeder support from Blessed Little Pups
That last item is especially important to us.
Bringing home a puppy is exciting, but questions can come up along the way. Our relationship with our puppy families doesn't end when they leave our home, and we're always happy to remain a resource as Sprout grows.
From Little Sprout to Family Companion
There's a lot waiting for this little guy between now and the day he heads home.
Soon he'll be exploring more, playing with his siblings, discovering toys, experiencing new things, and beginning those first puppy lessons. Somewhere in the middle of all that growing, we'll also start discovering the individual personality hidden inside this adorable little boy.
For now, we're simply enjoying the beginning.
Sprout has plenty of growing left to do here at Blessed Little Pups, and we're excited to watch this handsome Red Cavapoo puppy blossom right before our eyes. ❤️
